Good Shepherd Lutheran Bardstown KY
Proclaiming Christ in Bardstown

Our History

Good Shepherd began as a mission vision in 1998. The Kentuckiana Federation of Lutheran Churches supported the vision.

Bardstown Lutheran Mission began meeting at the Episcopal Church in Bardstown, KY, on Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998. Pastor John Lehenbauer, of Divine Savior in Shepherdsville conducted weekly Saturday services with Holy Communion celebration for the original small group of Lutherans.

In December 1999, Divine Savior requested a vicar to work with the Bardstown Mission and was assigned Vicar Guagenti, who began in July 2000. In November 2000, a charter was signed, giving Good Shepherd Lutheran Church her official beginning.  Six months later, the church called her first pastor, and upon his ordination in June 2001, Vicar Guagenti became Pastor Guagenti.

Desiring to worship on Sunday mornings, GS moved to Windsor Gardens, an assisted living facility in August 2001. Now GS was able to serve her community even without facilities, by providing a worship service for residents and a Sunday service for our fellowship.

Although Windsor Gardens had been a blessing for us, it did limit ministry possibilities. That is why we were excited about a move to  a new location renting space on Bloomfield Road. Even in this location, our space was limited and we were outgrowing the Bloomfield Road location. With this new location GS offered Vacation Bible School.

After prayerful consideration, GS decided to move again to a larger and newer facility. Our first worship service was on May 25, 2008. This space allows for a nursery and Sunday school rooms. Pastor Guagenti continues to offer services at Windsor Gardens on Sunday afternoon for the residents.
